That dratted animal!

Just walking around minding my own business - in MY backyard, when I came across this so-called "Kenneth" thing walking through the garden. How dare he!!  Well, I made sure he knew he wasn't welcome. Put on my loudest bark, then ran at him. The coward! He took off and scooted up the nearest tree. Then he had the cheek to sit there looking at me with this nasty grin on his face. Of course he knew I couldn't climb the tree, but I made sure he knew what I thought of him. Have to say he was pretty upset because he growled at me. Awful noise.
Of course it brought out the oldies and they carried on in the way they usually do when Kenneth comes around. All oohing and aahing and "Hello Kenneth - lovely to see you." Raced inside  for the camera and took a million shots until Kenneth got sick of it and went to the top of the tree.

And all I got for my pains was a telling off and put inside until I calmed down.

Life is so unfair.

Things in Trees

My family have a strange habit of wandering around looking up into the trees and calling out funny names.  The most recent one was "Kenneth".  Like "Kenneth, where are you?"

Or peering into bushes and shrubs and oohing and aahing, then saying, "Go away, Ollie".  "Lock that dog up!"

It was all very bewildering until I realised that there were things in the trees and bushes that they didn't want me to see.  Now I walk around with them looking up into the trees - and seeing nothing!!  But it gives them a laugh.

Today I did find something though - a bird's nest complete with a bird - one of those cheeky blackbirds who give me hell and dive bomb me when I am relaxing on the lawn with a particularly delicious old bone.

I did try to climb into the bush and check out the nest, but all I got was a smack for my efforts.  It's not like they even like black birds. She is always complaining abut the way they scratch all the mulch off the garden.  So when I try to help out, I am the one who gets told off.

Just can't work them out.

By the way, this is what they were looking at the other day - this is what they call Kenneth.

Can't see what all the fuss is about myself. Humans!! I just can't work them out.

So Long

I'll never understand humans. She was so keen to have me write a blog and then She went and left me high and dry and none of my fans had anything to read. I've finally got her back on track, but it has taken an age. Something about forgetting what email address and password she used to set it up.  I really hate computers. Every minute She spends on the computer is a minute less time She has to throw my ball for me.

And she wonders why I sulk.

It's a small world, isn't it. She was at school the other day when She saw one of her ex-mums with a gorgeous Great Dane pup. Of course She had to stop and pat it - She's a sucker for anything canine. Her friend told her that she had an American pen-pal and they had connected because they both had "doggie" blogs. Her American friend told her that she had come across another person from Lobethal with a "doggie" blog and wasn't that a coincidence considering how small Lobethal is!

Even more of a coincidence was the fact that ours was the other blog and we all knew each other.

More soon.

Gardening

We've been having brilliant weather this week - perfect for gardening. I am a keen gardener. There's nothing I enjoy more than getting outside and offering my help and expertise on any gardening matter. Unfortunately my help is not always appreciated, but I keep trying.

I find it hard to understand why I get yelled at when I grab the end of a large weed that has just been pulled up. To me its the perfect opportunity for a game of Tug 'o War, but no one else seems to see it that way. So today when SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) was removing lovely, tall dried sweetcorn plants from the garden I did my best to help, first by digging a hole as She pulled, then by grabbing the roots and helping to carry the darn thing to the compost heap. All I got for my pains was a whack with the sweetcorn stalk.

I did amuse myself by pouncing on every little lizard I could see sunning on the rocks. Not that I caught any, but the reaction from SWMBO was not at all pleasant. She has this thing about lizards and frogs being pounced on. I've had many a slap on the rump for no good reason.

Just yesterday He was digging in the veggie patch and I was doing my best to help by getting my nose right in there where the fork was going in, when He nearly stabbed me. And I was the one who got yelled at, when He was the one who nearly murdered me.

Some days it is just so difficult being a dog.

Hmm, I'm sure I saw something moving in there.

Drat!  I missed it. There was a lizard on that rock.

Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Meet Ollie

Hello there, I'm Ollie and this is my blog. As if my owner doesn't have enough to do, she has now decided to give me a blog. They all keep saying how smart I am and I'll soon be able to use the computer, so here I am set up with a blog.

Of course I am smart - most Jack Russells are - and I do a lot to help around the house - chase and occasionally catch mice, rats, birds, lizards, frogs, moths, grasshoppers and crickets etc. Have to admit I get into a lot of strife for catching most of these, except for mice and rats. I also help with the housework - chasing and trying to kill the broom and the mop, taking things out of cupboards, hiding things under chairs, destroying socks, chewing the reels of thread that are left around, guarding the clean clothes in the ironing basket, checking out the dishwasher when the door is open, barking at anyone who comes to the door - to name just a few of my talents.

I am planning to tell you a lot more about my exploits, to give lots of advice about dog handling - my favourite TV show is 'Dog Whisperer',  I never miss an episode - and generally seek to inform you about the thoughts and dreams of a Jack Russell.

That's me done for now. Catch you later.
